AI Credits
Every Melaa plan includes a healthy monthly pool of AI credits, shared across your whole district. If a month runs heavy, you can top up at a published rate. No per-teacher meters, no surprise invoice.
Why credits instead of “unlimited”
We would rather be honest about the ceiling than hide one. AI compute is the single real cost of running Melaa, and the only ways to handle it are to price for the heaviest possible user, to quietly throttle people, or to publish a number. We publish the number. That is what lets us hold pricing at $10 per ML student per year for districts of every size, and keep it steady year over year.
How big the pool is
District plans include 50 credits per ML student per month, with a floor of 2,500 credits so small districts are never squeezed. A district with 500 ML students gets 25,000 credits a month.
The pool is one shared district balance, not a cap per student or per teacher. Real use is never spread evenly: a handful of newcomers take far more planning than a long-established student, and one teacher may draft a whole unit in an afternoon. A shared pool lets that happen without anyone hitting a wall that belongs to someone else.
What a credit buys
A credit is a small unit of AI work, and different tasks draw different amounts. A quick question to the AI Thought Partner costs about a credit. A full graphic organizer, a language-plan draft, or a family letter costs several, because the model is doing more. We meter the work itself rather than counting “messages,” because one message can mean a one-line answer or a full set of leveled materials.
- Viewing scores, CAN DO Descriptors, rosters, plans, and exports is always free and never costs credits.
- Only AI drafting draws from the pool.
- In practice, normal classroom use across a district lands well inside the monthly pool.
Topping up
If your district has a heavy month, an owner or administrator can buy more credits from the admin dashboard at $25 per 1,000 credits, and they are available immediately. Purchased credits never expire. They roll over month to month and are used only after the monthly pool is spent, so nothing you paid for is ever lost to a reset.
How it resets
The monthly pool refills on the 1st of each month. The pool itself does not roll over, which is what keeps the per-student price flat. Purchased top-up credits are separate and do carry forward.
You will always hear from us first
- At 80% of the monthly pool, we email your administrator a heads-up. Nothing changes at that point.
- If the pool runs out, we email again and pause only AI drafting for the rest of the cycle. Scores, descriptors, plans and letters already created, and exports all keep working.
- Your administrator can top up at any time to resume immediately, or wait for the reset.
- If your district is adopting Melaa deeply and tops up every month, reply to either email. We will size a larger pool into your plan rather than let you keep buying blocks.
Bring Your Own Key has no pool
Credits apply to the fully managed plan, where Melaa provides and pays for the AI compute. On Bring Your Own Key, your district supplies its own Anthropic API key and pays Anthropic directly, so there is no credit pool and no ceiling from us at all.
