ClassLink Setup Guide
For district technology teams. Setup takes about 15 minutes, and most of it happens in tools you already use.
What the integration does
- Single sign-on: staff launch Melaa from a tile on their ClassLink LaunchPad. No separate passwords.
- Nightly roster sync (OneRoster 1.1): schools, students, teachers, class sections, and enrollments flow from your SIS through ClassLink to Melaa automatically, so teacher rosters stay current without manual upkeep.
- What does not flow through ClassLink: grades and assessment results. ACCESS scores are added separately by your Melaa admin (step 6). We ingest student and teacher roles only, never parent or guardian records.
Before you start
- Admin access to your ClassLink Roster Server console and the ClassLink Management Console (CMC).
- A Melaa district account with an owner/admin login. If your district doesn't have one yet, contact us and we'll set it up first.
- If your district web filter blocks newly registered sites, allowlist melaa.app so staff devices can reach the application.
Step 1 - Share your roster (Roster Server)
- In your ClassLink Roster Server console, add the application Melaa - Rostering.
- Scope the share to your multilingual learners, and include their enrollments. Use ClassLink's rule-based permissions to share the students in your ML/EL population (for example, a group or program flag you already maintain in your SIS) together with their class enrollments. Melaa only ingests students, teachers, sections, and enrollments from what you share.
- Enable the app to share data.
Why scope to ML students rather than the whole district. Because Melaa builds each teacher's roster from class enrollments, sharing your ML students with their full schedules is what lets a mainstream classroom teacher (their biology or English teacher, say) see the ML students in their class, and only those students. When the share is scoped to ML students, every section that reaches Melaa contains only ML students, so no non-ML student data enters the system. Sharing the entire district instead would bring in every student, which is more data than Melaa is authorized to hold under your data-privacy agreement, and is not necessary for teacher visibility.
If your SIS doesn't have a ready-made ML/EL group to scope on, share your ELD/ESL course sections to start; we can widen the scope with you as your rostering is built out. This matches ClassLink's own “Roster an Application” process (their Help Center covers it in detail). Sharing your roster is what makes your district visible to Melaa; there is nothing to configure on Melaa's side of ClassLink.
Step 2 - Add the Melaa SSO app (Management Console)
- In the ClassLink Management Console (CMC), add apps and search the app library for Melaa.
- Add the app to your district.
- Assign the tile to the staff who should see it (ELD/ML staff and the classroom teachers of multilingual learners). Melaa is staff-facing; students do not need the tile.
Do this after (or alongside) the roster share: teacher accounts are created automatically on first tile launch, which relies on the roster connection being in place.
Step 3 - Link the connection inside Melaa
- Sign in to Melaa as your district's admin and go to Admin → Settings.
- Click Connect with ClassLink and sign in with a ClassLink account from your district. This tells Melaa which ClassLink district to bind to your Melaa account.
Behind the scenes, Melaa stores your district's roster credential encrypted (AES) and uses it only for the nightly sync.
Step 4 - Run the first sync
- Stay on Admin → Settings and click Sync Now, which appears once the connection is linked (after this, the sync runs automatically every night). Admin → Rosters is where you review what came in.
- Review the results: schools, students, sections, and enrollments, including primary-teacher flags. Teacher/school assignments are derived automatically from section enrollments.
A note like “N unmatched teachers” is normal on the first sync: those are rostered teachers who haven't signed in yet. They match up automatically as they launch the tile (step 5).
Step 5 - Staff sign in
- Staff click the Melaa tile on LaunchPad. Rostered teachers get a Melaa account automatically on first launch; there is nothing to pre-provision.
- Accounts created this way are always teacher-level. Your Melaa admin grants admin roles in Admin → Staff.
Step 6 - Add ACCESS scores
Rostering brings in who your students are, not their scores. In Admin → Students, upload your ACCESS score file (a CSV export such as your DSR works). Rows match the rostered students automatically by State Student ID, and teachers see the scores, CAN DO profiles, and AI supports immediately.
Data & privacy
- Roster data ingested: school names/IDs, student and teacher names, emails, IDs and grade levels, class sections, and enrollments, only from what your district shares.
- Full details, including every subprocessor, are on our Data Sharing page and in our Privacy Policy.
- To pause or remove the connection, unshare the roster in your Management Console and email info@melaa.app; we'll disable the sync and confirm.

Email info@melaa.app and a human (usually our founder) will get back to you quickly, and can hop on a call with your team during setup if that's easier.
