LTEL Early Warning
Spot students on a path to becoming long-term English learners while there's still time to change the outcome.
Reading the tiers
- Open LTEL Watch in the admin sidebar. Every active (non-exited) student is placed in a tier from their own score history.
- Long-term (labelled with your state's term, e.g. Long-term EL) - 5 or more completed school years of services without exiting, counted from the program entry date when recorded, otherwise from years of ACCESS results. The same rule drives Insights, the Title III export, and the Program Plan. High risk - the student's own projection (level-based pace, scaled to their history) reaches the exit bar only after graduation, or growth is flat after 3+ years. Watch - projected exit is 3+ school years away, or long tenure with thin data. On pace - trending to exit before graduation. Needs data - fewer than two scores to trend.
- Click a tier card or a grade row to filter the student list; click a student to open their profile and full trajectory.
Flags come from each student's own scores only - Melaa never compares students to cohort norms, and the projection is not necessarily predictive.
Acting on it
- High-risk and Watch students are candidates for a support-intensity conversation: check the slowest-moving domain on their profile and their signed plan's service minutes.
- "Years on record" counts score years in Melaa - students imported with only the latest year will undercount, so backfill prior-year uploads for accurate flags.
