Small Groups & Sharing Snapshots
Band your roster into proficiency groups for stations, and hand a co-teacher a read-only student snapshot.
Build small groups
- Open "Groups" above your student list and choose "Auto-band by proficiency" (visible when you have 2+ students). From the "By class section" view you can also click "Auto-band these" to band just that class.
- Auto-band works on whatever you're already looking at: the students you've selected manually, the class you've filtered to, or your whole roster. A Band row at the top of the builder shows each available scope with its student count so you can switch between them.
- Pick the domain you're teaching - Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, or Overall - and Melaa bands those students into Foundational (levels 1-2), Building (3-4), and Extending (5-6) groups.
- Each group comes with a level-appropriate instructional focus, and students without a score in that domain are listed so you can place them by judgment.
- "Print groups" makes a station-planning sheet. Groups are a starting point - adjust for personalities and content knowledge.
- "Use in chat" on any group loads those students straight into the AI chat's Group mode, with the band (domain, levels, and focus) included as context. A chip above the student list shows which group is loaded.
- Bands bigger than 10 students split into balanced, score-adjacent sub-groups - pick one sub-group per chat and run the others in their own chats.
Changing the selection by hand turns the loaded band back into a regular custom group - the band context only applies while the selection matches the built group.
