Teacher Quick Start

Log in, find your students, and get your first WIDA-differentiated suggestion in under five minutes.

  1. Go to melaa.app and click Sign In (top right).
  2. Use the email your admin invited you with. If your district uses Google, Microsoft, ClassLink, or Clever, use the matching single-sign-on button instead of a password.
  3. You'll land on the dashboard: your student list on the left, the Student Profile in the middle, and the AI assistant on the right.

Find your students

  1. The left panel opens on the "My Students" tab - every student your admin has assigned to you, with their overall score and designation badge.
  2. Use the search box to filter by name (nicknames work too).
  3. Click a student to load their profile. The middle panel shows their name, grade, home language, designation badge, any approved accommodations, and their four domain scores.
  4. "Manual Entry" (the right-hand tab) lets you explore supports for a hypothetical student by entering scores directly - nothing is saved.

Profile extras worth knowing

  1. If a student has a perceived score on file, a Tested / Perceived switch appears on their profile - flip it to compare the official result with the staff estimate (perceived values carry an asterisk).
  2. "Show Next Level Preview" above the CAN DO descriptors shows what students at the next proficiency level typically do with support - context for stretch tasks and scaffolds, not a checklist or a goal the student is measured against.
  3. Copy puts the whole profile on your clipboard; Export creates a printable PDF of it.
  4. The expand icon on the AI panel gives the chat the full screen for longer planning sessions.
  5. Click your initials (top right) for your account menu: edit your profile, get help, suggest a feature, switch the tool between Light, Dark, and System themes (System follows your device), or sign out. It also shows your name, school(s), and role. Get help and Suggest a feature send a short message to our team by email; please don't include student names or other student information.

Ask the AI assistant

  1. With a student selected, type a question in the chat on the right - for example: "Plan a 5th grade science lesson on ecosystems with supports for this student."
  2. The assistant already knows the student's WIDA profile, CAN DO descriptors, approved accommodations, and (if signed) their language plan - you don't need to repeat any of it.
  3. The assistant takes a few seconds to work out its answer before it starts writing. Meanwhile the reply shows what it is working on (for example, "Thinking about this student's reading and writing levels...") and a seconds counter.
  4. Use Copy, PDF, or DOCX under any response to take it with you, or "Save as note" to attach it to the student's record.

Privacy: student names are automatically stripped from roster data and your messages before anything reaches the AI. You'll see a "Names protected" banner when that happens. Images and scanned PDFs you attach are the exception (see Attach a file).
